I just got home from work and was looking on e bay and seen a Thompson 2 weight governor that they were asking $349.00 for. What would make that governor any better than a regular $25.00 2 weight M governor. I dont see where it would be any different.
 
Sounds high, different things on some of those compared to a IH were. Ball bearings in the fork, hiem joints on the throttle link. Fork with a closer sized spring hole and also the in the lever for the other end of the spring. Different throttle tube and shaft. If I remember correct the fork spring hole is located so the spring has a little different leverage pulling the fork. Weights are pinned different than a IH.
May be something I forgot. Could be argued if some of the things in those governors helped or not over a IH.
M&W also sold a two weight governor at one time.
 
I know the governor. The seller has had three offers and it is still for sale. A week ago I pulled a muscle in my lower back and it started to spasm. After I got home from the doctor with narcotic pain killers and muscle relaxers I slept all afternoon. Consequently I was awake at 1:00 AM and I found a Thompson 2 wegiht governor for a Farmall M on Ebay and I bought it for $60 delivered. I think the reason I got it cheap is the seller did not know what it was. I just opened it tonight. (Merry Christmas to me) My intention is to compare it to the OEM governor and then see what it would take to rebuild an OEM to the Thompson specs. I should have time to get to it wihtin the next week. If you send me an email and I will let you know what I figure out.
 
Thompson was mostly like this M&W two weight govenor in the picture advertized at one time. Weights and some parts had the same number on them on the ones I saw. Can't say you will find the same thing in all the governors. As time went along changes can be found.
