While there is nothing specific in the rules that says you cannot run a longer/taller block in the open class, there is a factory HP limit for the light open classes 3500 and 3750. So, since an 88 sized tractor/block is not allowed to pull 3500 and 3750, I would apply the same logic to your situation. You cannot pull a 77 with an 88 sized block in 3500 or 3750 open.   [Reply]  [No Email]

I am always bewildered by this situation whenever a club does this. Then they cry that turnout is falling? Please explain. To most people open means run what ya brung. Limiting hp directly limits competition & attendance. We have a local club that limits horsepower to 33% over factory in open, & RPM to 10% over. This is NOT 'open' in any other motor sport! This tractor pull is a once a year event that directly benefits(fund raiser) the local Expo Fair Board. The Fair is a traditional summer 4H/FFA event for the local youth. I have sole responsibility for interpreting/enforcing the rules, that have been in place since the inception of the pull over 20 years ago. I inherited this responsibility from my deceased father. The local Expo Board members and community volunteers are great about supporting the pull with a great deal of labour hours. Our priorities for the event are safety, consistency and creating an inviting environment for the continued success of the event. We don't have club politics or annual rules meetings voted on by small numbers of local pullers. The rules have remained largely untouched since their creation. I try to be as fair as possible to each and every puller and will seek out experts when I need to for specific makes/models when something comes up that I don't know. We always apply common sense to the interpretation of the rules in order to be as fair as possible. Above all, if anyone has questions/suggestions, I am always available at the end of the track checking the RPM of each and every tractor after they pull.   [Reply]  [No Email]

Thats not the point it sounds like a much better event with higher turnout than anything from lose to here. I just was wondering why clubs have a class called ' open' & then its not. It seems there are other classes for limited stuff & im just wondering if you build a full out machine & cant go in open class yhen how/where can you compete with it? I dont wanna spend 10k on a tractor i cant pull? Sorry for the confusion & thanks for any input :-)   [Reply]  [No Email]

Some of the "open" tractors that meets the pulls rule go scary fast in that building anyway let alone anything that would go faster.
