We rebuilt the entire transmission including every single bearing, new bushings in the PTO, All shifter forks etc were gone over and properly adjusted, all tolerances were adjusted to spec, every part was scrubbed spotless, all oil holes chamfered, new shifter cup, ball, snap rings and gasket were all replaced on shift lever etc. Case was spotless and rare earth magnets placed in bottom of case. This tractor sees high use!
The tractor still will pop out of third gear when under load.

The transmission drive gear and shaft assembly inlcuding nut part # AB4161R sub #AB3504R or gear only part # B2435R......and the sliding gear shaft drive part #B3613R sub #AB4193R were both substantially worn. We hoped with new bearings it would stay in gear but unfortunately it will not:(

I am looking for BOTH of these parts NOS ONLY.

The tractor is a 1948 JD B 201000+

"Severely infected"

thanks for your time

Another option if you haven't tried yet is to take those part #s to your local JD dealer and they can do a dealer search on JD Point & see if any other dealer has that part in stock. The chances are pretty slim but its worth a try.

Local guys here have a 413 cube b. jumped out on them for years. They have the problem fixed now. I believe they added a extra detent and some other stuff. I can get you in contact with them if interested

When you have tried new detents, and it doesn't work. Had a G1000 did the same thing. We took the shaft out and machined a groove to the bottom of the splines. then ground the splines down in the direction of travel of the trans shaft. Just where the gear sat when engaged. This let the gear climb the shaft a little and it couldn't slide out of gear because the splines were sharp in front of it. You could not get it out of gear when it was pulling. If I'm not clear call me 6188382225. Vic

I have the same problem with a B. Also installed new bearing and detents, didn;t help.

Somebody once mentioned something about a locker that was installed on 50's. Not sure if that would, help never installed it yet.

If you find a fix please let me know.

Might be easier to have a shop make you a set. I believe there"s a place in Ohio that claims they can make you any gear you want just give them the specs.

Shane,

I had the same problem with mine when I first built it. Just speculating, but I"ll go out on a limb and say I"m probably pushung a few more ponies than you and this has worked for me. It doesnt come out of 3rd gear, the tractor just stops moving and the gear shift doesnt move, right?

make sure you replace the all the bearings on the top shaft 2,12,15 and 24. Mic the shaft and make sure it fits snug on the bearings. Also check your case and make sure it isnt wallered out where the bearings go.

Make sure the shift rail adjustment is correct, and it sits in the middle of the detent. you can also shim the detent springs and grind a little on the shaft to make a little deeper.

Good luck.

Yeah, #9 slides into #13 when the shift lever is on the fast gears (3,5,6). move the shift lever to the left and the #9 slides to the right.

Once I did this, my 442 cuber had no other issues up to 5200#.
