Im running a hot coil and Pertronixs on my M but no charging system.Burning out the coils every couple of years [13 , 14 pulls a year].Are you better off running a alternator to keep the battery fully charged

A 12V electrical system powered by an alternator typically is regulated to about 14.5 volts while running. I would have to check but a good battery fully charged is at about 12-12.3 volts. That does not answer your question but what I do know about electrical systems is if you are trying to the same work at a lower voltage it requires more amperage. Amperage creats heat and burns things up. It will be interesting to see what responses you get.

Are your coils 6 or 12 volt coils? Alot of coils aare internally 'stepped down' to 6 volts but some still need the balast resistor externally to do the job. Ask the coil makers.

I have the flamethrower 1 , 12 volt , oiled filled.Just got the same coil but epoxy filled , supposed to be able to take the bouncing around better and will be using a alternator come spring
