How do you run alt/gen when water pump is removed?

Thats the only way unless you leave it up top with a long belt. I have mine under the bottom and its easy to do that way.
 
I do not use 1, buy a good optima battery and trickle charge over night before pull, we ran no alt. when racing roundy round for 100 laps
 
I run an electric fan and water pump in my H with no alternator. I got a Yellow top optima battery and good charger with an AGM setting. Charge it the night before the pull and you are good to go.
 
machine a bracket with a shaft to hold a bearing free spinning pulley. that sits in the same spot that the stock water pump pully was and leave alt in stock spot? if you dont want to run it underneath...just an idea?

A high compression engine with MSD will not run correctly without 13 to 14 volts. That being said if you only start your tractor a couple times a fully charged battery should be good. Multiple starts throughout the day drains a battery very quickly. Pulling takes horspower, why let a 15 lb alternator rob you of it?

Also in my opinion Optima batteries are not that great. Odyssey batteries are the best made, Sears Platinum batteries are a rebranded Odyssey at about $100 less.
 
I second that motion that Optima batteries aren't that great. Just a Johnson Controls battery with a lot of advertisement.

Bring along a 3500lb tractor to pull start it and forget the battery... 8)
