wide front project

Still gathering parts and materials to make my WC a wide front using a B Wishbone and a Mustang II rack and pinion. Not confident enough to try to swap it over before Tunica, I will wait till after the holidays. Just thought i would post pics and hear from the group comments and or suggestions.

Do not feel there is enough beef in that axles
for that tractor. Better to ask someone that
has more knoledge , or engineering exsperience.ggp

got the idea from a guy who pulls here with a WD 45 diesel, gonna weld a piece of 3/16 plate 6" wide in bottom curve for strenght and style, gonna cut WC into that.

Like the rack and pinion but you have it laying there turned the wrong way. (left end on the right side) I would like to see it after you are finished and hear how it steers. Those short racks get used in a lot of places for special projects. Have Fun!

as designed for the car, the column would be on the left and the arms front steer, my steering shaft is on the right side and the spindle arms are rear steer, just flip and go!!

It is positioned properly the way it is in the picture. If you flip it and mount it behind the axel it will steer backwards.you would have to mount it in front of the axle if you put the shaft on the left side of the tractor using the mustang ll rack. The ford escort or dodge omni rack would work on the left side of the tractor behind the axle. Keep the center line of the rack 3 1/2" to 4" from the center of the front axle to make it steer the best and still turn pretty sharp.

3 1/2 - 4 off center? which way? or positioned just that distance away from the axle? I was looking on a website that builds component tractors and have an idea in my head on where to hang the rack, still listening to suggestions.

Thanks for the feedback.

Andy

Keep the rack parallel to the axel, if you look at it from the top the center af the axel to the center of the rack should be 31/2-4". This measurement makes it steer pretty sharp,if you move the rack farther from the axel it takes a 20 acre field to turn around in. Shorten up the steering arms on the axel to match this measurement. On the allis you can position the rack so that the stock steering shaft can be used with only one universal joint connected at the rack and an adapter or sleeve to connect it to your shaft.

Thanks, I kinda had that in mind, just makes me feel better to know I am on the right track with my design ideas. Look me up in Tunica.
