I would get a D-21 426 engine and put it in a WC-I would use a P pump with 15mm plungers and a good 4.1 Turbo---You should be almost unbeatable-unless you run up against a 466 in a C Farmall!!!

Tks soo much for opinions! Are we looking at a WC with a WD45 engine or what seems to be the consensus on this? What, how to build etc? What say yall? dg ps: I was contemplating a WC or WD WD45 combo. Will the combine (Gleaner) engines fit? or what prob will one encounter? dg

With a short chain, a 226 WD45, D17, or a Late Combine engine isn"t enough engine in a WC, WD or a WD 45 gas. They might be if you put a D17 ring and pinion in your WD 45 gas. A WD 45 diesel has the same ring and pinion. The cheapest thing you can do for hp and torque is to stroke your WD 45 engine 1/2 in. Use your rods and pistons. Can get this done for around 500 dollars. I"m talking about using 15.5 X 38 rear tires. We pull a Steel rear WC with fast gears and a 366 engine, will pull 3 or 6 mph in low gear. A lot of guys you pull against will have 400 plus cu in.

The gleaner is pretty easy to drop in. you may want to put the stock governor and front cover on the combine motor. def use taller 4.125 pistons to get compression ours is about 12:1 and runs well on 93 octane gas.

If you are looking for something quick, easy, and cheap, then build a WD45 engine with a .125" overbore kit. Makes 240 cubes. If you don't mind running the "best of the best" as far as fuel goes, then by a WD rebuild kit instead of a WD45 kit. The taller pistons will put compression way up. I haven't got a real straight answer, but seems compression would be in the 12 - 13 range.

I agree WC hand brakes are a plus when it comes to pulling. I find them much more instinctive to use than foot brakes! I have a bias but my choice would absolutely be a WC. We"ve won classes from 3,000-4,500 with ours. If you want to run fenders it"s tough to get down to 3,000 especially with an unstyled tractor. I also like the electric starter on the styled models, but we pull both styled & unstyled WCs and do well with either. Good Luck! Kip

WC with stamped steel rear end will make 3000#. just add a 45 crank and you're good to go. I have one for sale!

i would make a wd on 13.6 or 15.5 38s Mine on 13.6 will just make 3250 class. You could save more weight by getting small front tires and deleting the hand clutch. use angle iron or aluminum for light weight brackets. The problem with a wc is the rearends are geared really high and its about impossible to use the handbrakes in pulling. For engine use gleaner motor and overbore kit.

it's VERY easy to use hand brakes pulling. "two handed posi" They are geared fast. mine has 14.9/38's and I run 3.5 mph speed limit. RC ring and pinion would help, or the corn picker 2 speed that's under drive
