Atwater, the 420 piston has a 2.25" compression height.

Would these work for you? They are 4.375" (+0.125 Over) Unstyled B pistons.

those are higher compression right? i was trying to keep the compression down, hopefully low enough to burn kero.

Wow.........talk about being able to kill the mood and excitement on a pulling board. With just the words "like to burn kerosene".

Yeah, kind of a buzzkill burning Kero on the pulling board...

So anyways, Yes, these are set up for about 8:1 compression. I can knock about 0.300" off of them (maybe a tick more) and get the compression to about 5.9:1.

If you don't like those, let's just start over with a new piston. These are just ones that I designed and stock. I can do whatever you want.

E-mail me or call for more info.

Some body should make a really tough 430 puller in the light classes. Should be able to stroke it to 6 or 6.25 and bore it to 4.625 to 4.75. 221 cu in. Then grind the cam to trade the intakes and exhaust valves. Should have a 80 plus hp. Also the rpm's are 2400 or so. If I didn't have so many uncompleted projects I would do it myself. :-) Vic

Two main bearing Dubuque crankshaft failed almost immediately when diesel experiments were attempted.
The later 440 industrial gassers were factory souped with higher compression, larger carb, larger manifolds and improved head ports.
I don't imagine a built 420 Dubuque two cylinder out powering a bored and stroked FarmAll H.

I agree, but sometimes it takes just enough. A built little 40-420-430 should have enough to pull up to 4000 lb in farm stock. 15.5 X 38 and 3 mph. even on a clay track and short chain.

would be interesting. my question about pistons stems from attempting to find a piston to use in a early BO. i dont want to raise the compression much if at all. i dont want to convert to electric start.

I've often thought of doing one but always wondered if Trans will hold up on power track

My 435 is the same, I just went and put new bearings in it and set it up real tight. I have broken bull pinions, and twisted those shafts. Can put a new one in, in a couple of hours. One without independent pto would be better. Could put a truck clutch of some kind in it.

What gear are you pulling in and the weight class? Tire size and track type?
The traction clutch on mine never slips. The Spicer clutch was rebuilt with clutch fiber material on the entire diameter of the clutch disk. There was a choice of three different friction ratings and the grabbiest was used.
Twisted the shafts between the differential and the bull gears?
Any failures of the ring and pinion or using the pre 31,000 serial number model 1010 R&P ?

I'm sorry didn't answer your question about bull pinion gears. knocke's teeth off the little gear. Also have busted the spider gears. I think this was my fault, should have replaced them when I had it apart.

I am pulling up to 4500, 4000 is better 3500 better yet. even 3250. 18.4 X 34 full cut tires. Low gear with stock gears. 4mph max. Will power out sometimes in 4500. But if you go further it takes more power.
