I pull stock with a farmall 340, and can not seem to get any traction i pull in the 5,6,7000lb classes i have 11.4/36 tires with good tread and about 5psi air, i also run all wheel weights. it seems that i spin out every time even if i lower the engine rpm, i have all kinds of power that is not a problem, so does anyone have any suggestions??

Anything that puts weight on the rear tires is a help. With that being said, loaded tires are a two edged sword. You need the loaded tires to weigh exactly the same, or the tractor will tend to veir off to one side. Their use on anything but a first or second gear pull would tend to hurt you in the long run. Wheel weights are far better.

As little as 2 lbs of air pressure can make a big difference. The other problem(s) you are fighting. Could be hitch height and placement, and lastly I studied long and hard about macking a 340 a puller and the thing that stopped me was the short wheel base of the tractor.

If your not floating the front end before spinning out, your hitch needs to move back some. I say that because you state that all your added weights are wheel weights. Once you get the front to start coming up you, may get competitive, with that short tractor.

To know when you have maximum traction (air pressure) for the tires, you need to look at the spin out tracks you made in the dirt, after you unhook.

If there is a flat mark in the dirt ( [ ) pressure is right on. If there is a U ( ( ) shape in the ther is a bit too much pressure. If the is a convex shape ( > ) you don't have enough air. Take the form in the middle of the parenthesies and rotate it 90 degs CCW to see what I mean. Each track is different and what works on one may or may not work there everytime.

Pulling is about balance and weight transfer and the right amount of traction, not so much about power. Too much power has a tendency, to hurt you rather than help you. At the end of the day the perfect set up has you running out of power or traction, just as you cross the 300 ft mark

thanks for the info, we are allowed 2 sizes over stock, so if i do not find any tires before next year i will try uping my psi, it could be my tire psi hurting me because a JD B is going past me and he has small narrow tires?????

I would agree with kip. 8-10 to start may be up to 12psi. Also you would do better with a 13.6 on the back. 11.2 is a pretty skinny tire for what your doing.

Look at what the people who are winning are doing and then compare your setup to the ones that win. I suspect they run bigger tires.

That sure isn't much tire for pulling that heavy. Can you go bigger?

I'd start by by upping your air pressure to 8 or 10 psi.
