I been pulling a 88 ollie and am wanting to get into the bigger turbo diesels. I hate seeing the same green and red tractors, so im thinking of a white, i know ill have more hurdles to jump to make a competitive tractor, but love the feeling of making the other guys eat their words and i like to stand out from the crowd, so any suggestions of what model works best, for mods and being able to make weight with out too much work? im a young puller, im 28 and been pulling the ollie for 7 years, so im bored. Keep in mind, i don"t have a huge budget. Thanks!

i'm not trying to be a smart a$$, but if you want a"WHITE" pulling tractor ,go with a 70 sereis CASE. Alot cheaper, more cubic inches, and a 3 speed power shift.

I like them old Fords...wish more people pulled them!....Here in MI the turbo tractors have a few rules to limit turbo size, but are stilled bored, pump work, custom injectors, custom manifolds....in the 12,000lb class I have heard of 800hp+...It would be nice if a guy could pull 1 out of the field and pull, would have a higher tractor count for sure

I have been pulling a Ford 9000 for about 9 years, and having a lot of fun with it. I have very little money in it. It had been in the weeds for seven years when I got it. It is really just a heap of junk with about ten thousand hours on it, pto has a bad bearing and pto clutch doesn't hold, but it is painted up with decals, and drastically lightened on the front and it is very competitive from 8500 up to 11,500. To get power with the Simms pump all you need is a screwdriver.

White 140 or 160 with a cummins.....It will be hard to compete if you have a budget, because a lot of turbo pullers do not have 1

What is your definition of a huge budget? Bigger tractors=more money. The tractor, parts, drivetrain, and transportation cost would all be considerably higher than pulling an 88. A fullsize White in decent condition would be at least $5k, Cummins swap at least $10k, then factor in another $5-10k for a heavy gooseneck trailer. From one Oliver puller to another, I know what you mean about wanting to surprise some red & the other green tractors. Just be aware that it would take at least $20k to start. If your ok with that, I think to make a White competitive you would need to swap a Cummins into a white 2-105 or 2-135. The tub would be wide enough for a cummins and the over/under can be built to handle the horsepower. If you want to be as light as possible go with the 105. It would be difficult to compete with the perkins or herc engines these tractors had from the factory vs. the 466 Deere's and IH's. What part of MN are you from? There are a number of cummins powered Olivers & Whites here in southern MN that pull sportsman & outlaw classes.

Im from south central mn area, I was considering the 105, and putting a cummins in it, can you put the 8.3 in or is the 5.9 enough? The next question is would i be able to pull it, or do i need to re mark it as a 160? Or else just buy a 160, but they cost more up front and weigh alot more. you said the over under can be beefed up to handle the power? i know on the olivers that was always the thing that broke here on the farm.

Man the crazy talk on here, find a junked 1850 with the perkins tub get a cummins from a 95 or 96 dodge and your biggest expense is the steel flywheel and clutch. Remember just because somebody spent 20k doesn't mean you have too. Unless you are going super or pro stock the 5.9 can make a bundle of power very easily. Lock and load for maybe 10 unless you want all aluminum and never run before parts. Keep your eyes open and sometimes you can find one for sale. Was a heritage series for sale for 13k a while back. Good luck and it shouldn't be extremely difficult to make a competitive tractor.

the oliver 1850 still used the chain coupler to the over/under, and the whites went away from that. Is there a way to make a Oliver hold up to the extra power? I have found some 1850s for cheap, but i worry about durability. where can i find the conversion kit to put a cummins in a ollie or white, i know they are out there just not sure where to get one.

There is a pull in Macintire IA(which is about 30 miles southeast of Austin MN) on Saturday August 18 at noon. They have two pulls a year which are well attended and organized. This pull there will be no speed limit. If you go I bet you will find at least 4-5 Cummins powered Olivers & Whites there. Check it out and don't be afraid to ask questions.
