Topic: Need help degreeing a cam shaft

I have a big cube A John Deere that the govonors don't work on.The cam gear has been narowed so it will miss the sleave and the mark was machined off,we think it was marked wrong and moved it three teeth by looking at another gear[cam is not out of the tractor so realy hard to compare]now tractor is blowing back thru the carb.Can some one explain how to set the cam in simple terms.Thanks |

| | Find the aprox center of where the exhaust valve is closing, and the intake valve is opening, and then move the cam gear so that this happens at TDC of piston travel. If you find that you have to go one side of TDC or the other to line up a cam gear tooth, advance the cam so the center of the valves happens just slightly before TDC. That should get it to run. After that, more detailed "degreeing" is necessary. |
