SMTA with 4 1/8 pistons and liners, I have a heavier, than stock, governor spring. Pulling my swather in heavy hay it is up against the governor most of the time. After running for several hours it seems to get "tired" and is "hesitates" before governor kicks in. Any suggestions? I have tried adjusting the load adjusting needle out but diesn't seem to help. The last time around I thought maybe it was getting low on fuel so addes some but also didn't help. I replaced the pins on the weights in governor a few years back but wondering if this could be causued by weights being worn. |

| | When the piston kit was installed, were there any mods done to the carb to go with it? If not, you are likely running on the lean side. As ethanol is blended into our fuel, your carb settings get leaner yet. If it is running lean, as it gets hot after a long workout it will start to fade and even develop the odd missfire. Drill your main jet out aprox 0.100" (7/64" drill is good). Pull out the imulsion tube. It has 3 sets of holes. Drill out the bottom set with the same drill. This should allow you enough adjustment to over fuel, and then back off to a good setting. Remember to clean everything well after drilling. |
