I would like to run 4.75 high compression pistons in a 1939 JD B. I cant seem to find any that have the same size wrist pins that I have. Am I going to have to have rods made or does anybody else have any ideas?

I have a neighbor who can walk up to a high compression (4.75) B . With a pair of corn shucking gloves and a grass sack, grab the flywheel and kill it running wide open.

You would lose, He would wedge himself between the tire and flywheel, start pushing and holding the flywheel, smoke will completely cover them. The little B will lose. Try it some time. Maybe it was the weakest B in the world. LOL Vic

It does sound far fetched, but maybe. There is a lot of flywheel to grab and not a lot of power in the little B.

I was at a show once where they had a belt drive bakers fan. Everyone would take their turn. But the old man hitching up the belt would stand about half way between your tractor and the fan, and with just a pair of work gloves he would hold the two halves of the belt together in one hand and tell you to go.

Other than one really good working 830 deere, nobody could start the belt as long as the old man held the two halves together in his hand. Tractors would roar, beltch black diesel smoke, and all die.

Kind of interesting to watch.

By the way, back on topic, have you talked to Extreme or Murphys for pistons?

Jeff at Murphy's cnc machines custom pistons from blank aluminum stock.

He will make you any piston you want, with any pin size you want, with any pin location you want, with any compression you want, and with any ring configuration you want.

His service is good, and his quality is excellent.

I personally know of and have seen at least one deere useing his pistons that runs very good.

Also, Ray at Extreme tractor parts advertises 4.75" high compression pistons for John Deere B on his website with pictures included. Have you talked to him?

I hope this helps you.

Sory for wasting your time with my other post.

I apologize too, I read it like you were going to just have 4.75 compression, instead of diameter. Vic
