We don't have too many rules around here and nobody really cares too much about the rules as long as everyone has fun. Alot of people around have made some pretty bad 2 cylinders by thinking outside the box.

Couple things that have kinda crossed my mind.

#1 Intercoolers. Has anyone ever put one on a 2 cylinder? Would it make any difference? Colder air is denser so in theory is should make more power. I made a water to air one for my g. It draws air from the top of an insulated box which is filled with ice. I have been able to to lower the air temps by about 15-20 degrees. Tomorrow was supposed to be the first pull but I don't think there are classes for me so I'm staying home. Someday I'd like to try an air to air intercooler but I'm not sure about the effort to suck the air through the cooler.

#2 Meth Injection. I know alot of people that use it on diesel 2 cylinders but would it make any difference on a gas?

How about a eight valve head?

I have a Murphys head already and it does seem to breath pretty good but it could be better.

As far as an even fire two cylinder I know it can be done but how long is that engine going to stay together when your trying to spin 2000 RPMs on a motor designed to go 900-1000?

Maybe if it's done right there is some merit to it. I found this pretty cool article a while back.

With both cylinders being side by side that would mean both crank throws would be side by side and all the weight of both pistons and rods etc would be going forward or backward at the same time. Ballancing nightmare/impossible. One would be at tdc/firing and other tdc/exhaust/ that would be even fire in crank degrees of rotation. Won't work. Making a two stroke out of it with blower pressurizing through lower cylinder ports is only other way to get even fire out of a side by side common crank engine.

A billet aluminum cylinder head with huge ports
and valves and equipped with direct injection.
No hard to swap the injection system on from an
outboard motor etc.

Kinda got to agree with B/D. JD,s have always had enough cu. in displacement but that lo-po cylinder head is incapable of feeding it. A "G" for example is over 400 cu in. Might make 50 hp at around 1100 rpm. I don't care if ya go to 2000 rpm with stock head ain't gonna make much diff. Any other 400 cid motor will make easy 100 hp at 2000. Someone would cast a "good" alum head with spark plugs and individual intake runners along with good flow runners and valved angled slightly towards centerline of cylinder one might feel more like building for more cu in. The 2 cyl side by side design does have it's limitations also. Would end up being very expensive fun indeed.

about .090 overbore and a point of compression would do about as much

How about 2 stroke conversion?
