Say one was looking to get into the classic super stock class. Would a fella be better off to buy a chassis already done up and get his own motor and build it or would he be cheaper off just to buy a complete done up rig and go from there. found an older 4020 that has a decent price for that class. But it needs updated to the 466 block and the p pump I don't know how competitive it would be. If anyone knows of a john deere chassis sitting around for sale for this class please let me know.
Thanks in advance,
Jim

Where are you located in Ohio? Im in southeast Ohio. I like this class as well but it seems a little far for me to travel. A 4010/4020 bought would be the way to go. You can always buy one built then modify the engine and fuel-air components to fit the rules. There was a nice 4020 listed in northern ohio for sale but i think its running the stock style block and not sure if it has the 3 speed tranny. It was on pulloff.com a month or so ago. I watched this class at dover awhile back, they run pretty good.

The 4020 that was for sale up this way is the one i was talking about. it had a stock 404 bored to a 466 and a rotary pump not an inline. It also had a sock 4020 reared and working pto. They way i looked at it though 13,500 wasn't bad for it but the time i would buy one do the aluminum frame rails all the body work build a front end find hubs rims and tires. It wouldn't probably to be a bad idea to run a little calmer one the first season any ways. Going from hopped up two cylinders to that im sure would be a huge jump. That class though has a great schedule and it is a lot of close pulls to where we live. My son is 5 and really into tractors and im sure he will be taking over my G someday I would really like to get into something new. I live close to Dover. What part of Ohio r you from?

It's usually cheaper to buy one ready to go than to build one from scratch. With that said, you are essentially buying someone else's headaches as well. You may or may NOT get all the info on it, and when something goes wrong or doesn't work right, you are left trying to reverse engineer the thing to figure out what's going on. Just my $.02
