Doing a little celibrating tonight. Got the first pulls in for the year, also happened to be the first ones of my life, so I got pretty stoked when I took 1st place in 8500 class.

Would have done even better, if the front end hadn't reared up so far. I'll need to move a couple lbs to the front.

WELL, congratulations. My first pull wasnt so good but it was still fun. I only came in third in the 5000 class.
You must have done your homework.

congrats: lookin to my first pull next sat. trying to figure out where to put the weight. lookin at #5500 & #6000 classes. concern on the front coming up to much

That's the way it happens, now u r hooked for life. I've seen it before. Good luck in the future. mEl

Danny, all I can say is don't go in trying to win. Use the first season as a learning experiance, as I am doing. I just got lucky first time out. Put the weights as close to the rear axel as possible, and pull it. My front floated in the lighter classes, with all my weights in the back. It wasn't till late in the last pull before my front came up to far. I have learned that I need to put weight on the front for 8500 class not in the others.

Mel, That's not how my pulling experience began. I pulled a few times in 1986, then bought a dc in 87 and finally got a first at Nunda, SD in the fall of 88. I was thinking of getting an Oliver as nobody pulled a Case and the Olivers were going pretty well and we had them on the farm anyway. At Holland,Mn in June of 89 I pulled my dc in the 5500 and as I was putting on weight for 6500 I heard the announcer say, "Looks like we have a new first place!" I ended up winning the 5500 and 7500 that might and have stayed with Case ever since So I guess sometimes persistence pays off! I enjoy pulling for the people I meet, most generally a super group of people! My son and I had dinner with fellow pullers Kent Huewe, Mark Shellum and Mark's kids after the granite swap meet Saturday, I had a nice time and that's what pulling is all about! I have to admit it is kind of fun to beat some peacock on his red or green tractor with a Case!!!

Way to go! Most don't go like that. In my neck of the woods they would say beginners luck or a blind hog will find a acorn sometimes. Keep after it. Some of the hardest work you will do and the most fun with no profit. Best of luck!

I should mention that I was pulling a Case 711b. So you Case fans that have chimed in, she never ran out of power, just traction.

Doug, thanks for your story, as much as I have talked to you that's the first I've heard it.

Dodgeit, there are a few of us on here that like Case and people like Doug and a few others I could mention are consistently near the top of the Class.

Like Doug, make friends, learn to win and lose gracefully, remember, you are never as good as you look on a good day and not nearly as bad as you look when things are'nt going well. Watch the tractors and setups for the high placers and do what they do. Remember, Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery.

Thanks Mel,I guess the point I was making is that some people are destined to pull tractors and that one is truly interested persistence pays off. I went to farm pulls as a kid and we had a 830 and 970 Case as well as a 77 and 1850 Oliver that we farmed with but viewing my first antique pull in 1985 got me interested. Those W-9 IH's and LA Case's impressed me with the torque they produced!

It's a bad thing that happened to you, sort of like winning the first time in a casino!!! Congrats & good luck at your future pulls, as I'm afraid that there will be many of them!! Kip

My husband got me into pulling. I have a 53 Super H. Pulled my first time 3 years ago at Prairie Village (Madison, SD) and I won!!! I pulled the next two years, and got first both years!!!! And no I was not the only tractor in the class either. Not to bad for a girl.
