1956 case vac starter.

(quoted from post at 11:30:19 05/12/12) The big spring broke on the end of the starter broke and it wont engage to the flywheel. Do any of you people know where I could buy one at.

Dave, a auto electric rebuild shop should be able to supply you with a Bendix spring. That drive is mounted on the end of the starter armature with the gear in toward the bearing plate instead of next to the starter body and I believe the spring is wound in reverse of the normal ones so be careful as they all look the same under a casual look. On my DC starters I have been using the new style cushioned drive but I don't know if it is available for the VAC starter or not.

A quick check on this sites parts section shows a complete new drive for a bit over $36.00 for the VAC. Maybe the way to go??

Dave, i don't know if it's the same, but years ago the spring on the starter on my 56 ford broke and an old mechanic friend welded it and it never broke again, maybe worth a try. chuck
