JD G PowerBlocks, as they worth much these days?

Stupid question I know but I have two of them sitting in my shop taking up space (used to have three). The bores are good and anyone that uses them will bore them out anyway and they are not cracked or anything like that. The only reason I ask is because with Murphy's making them I did not know if the original ones really had much value to them anymore.

I was planning on building a G but my neighbor wants to sell me his 9.25 stroked A for not alot of money. And also I finish college in a year and will be going into the Marines so I don't want to go through all the work of building the G just to use for one season. I also got to thinking that when I build the G I want it to be a monster from the start (big block, billet crank OHC)

I know I've seen alot of guys switch blocks around to different tractors so would it be at all possible to drop one of these in an A? I was doing some measuring on my pulling A I have sitting here now and it may work with alot of cutting.

Anyway, let me know what you guys think. In the past you guys have always had a good opinion on stuff like this.

Thanks

I was just wondering what you would have to have for your power blocks. I don't see why the Power Blocks would not still be ok, even with Murphy's blocks being avaliable. some folks may not want to go as bib as Murphy's blocks. I would also be less trouble to install a Power Block.

Power Blocks are usually only about 1/3 the price of a New Monster Block..(IF they are any Good)..

and only about an INCH (or so) Smaller in Bore..!!

Monster JD Blocks are 3,500 to 4,000+

Take your Pick..!!!

To answer your question of installing a G block in an A-yes, it can be done, but you need an adapter plate between the case and block, and widen your frame out. My son had all of this layed out before he was killed. Had the block bored to 7&3/4" Good luck with your endeavors. Hope you are able to see his dream come true! Jugs.

Jugs,

Thanks alot for your reply! I was on the fence about this but after reading your post I really want to go through with this project now. I don't think I'll be able to get started on it until after we finish harvest but it should be an interesting project.

What kind of stroke do you think I should stick with for something like this? The tractor I would be doing this on is at 9.25 now but I'm not opposed to pulling that that crank out if you think it might be better to back it down a size. I could use that crank in my sleeper anyway

Thanks.
