So a while back I acquired a G powerblock and pistons with compression inserts for not a ton of money. I bought it knowing it had a crack next to one of the head studs at the top of the #2 cylinder. According to the previous owner it never did leak much over the winter and all that happened is it would blow a little water out when starting the tractor.
My intention was to just get it fixed and use it but after talking to my neighbor I am not so sure. He claimed that the G powerblocks work ok for their intended use but when you start stroking, running high compression heads, and pulling they do not hold up.
I know of guys taking stock blocks and boring them out equal to or greater than powerblocks and get along just fine. At least if you need a new block you can find one to start over with.
One guy suggested filling it up with block filler, burn alcohol, and not run any coolant but that does not sound like the best idea to me for a pulling tractor.
I am open to any suggestions or opinions.
Thanks.
