450 parts on M

I have a manifold, carb and cam off of a 450. Would it be any benifit for me to put them on my M for pulling? Thanks
 
Yes all will add some to a M, If you are still running a stock engine, 248cid those 450 add ons will not have a great effect on the performace. However If you have an overbore in there then the 450 parts will help even more.

what is done to the engine? on a fairly stock engine i dont think the carb will help cause you wont need the extra fuel fo added CI if the head doesnt have bigger valves or has been ported i dont see the benefit of the manifold the cam however i have been told the 450 gives a lil better performance i had a m with 4-1/8 bore stock stroke gas head and a 450 cam and i was pleased thats just my opinion if you got it layin around put it in and see what happens nothin like testin your own stuff
 

The tractor is 100% stock now, but smokes and is going to need to be freshened up at least. I don't want to stroke the crank, but will consider head work and oversized pistons. What piston/rod combo is best to look at with out breaking the bank?
 
i believe my piston kit was for a super mta 4-1/8 with your 450 parts and some good head work that should be a pretty good combo and not cost a fortune
 
I think that the 450 manifold is a cold manifold? That will help a little. Cam will help a little too. Carb will do nothing unless you rebuild to 281 or bigger. When I say "a little", you may get 3-4 HP from all of it.

When you rebuild, get as much compression as your fuel and wallet will allow. 8:1 is good, 10:1 is better. Pistons will not be cheap but the end result will be the best dollar value and HP without doing the crank. There are 4 or more people who will build a quality set of IH pistons to your specs. Murphy's, Extreme, Lemmons, Volbrats (sp?) To name a few.

You can't be certain the used 450 cam is any better than the M cam. The cam & followers will have wear from years of service. The cam maynot even be the proper unit due to repairs years ago. Send the cam & followers to Berry cam's and get them trued up.
