Does Anybody Change Tire Pressure or Hitch at Track

Does anyone change tire pressure, hitch height, or hitch cneterline distance depending on track conditions. That way if the track has good bite you could air tires up some to have more power. Or lenghten hitch or lower hitch to have more power at the pulls. Just curious.

The only thing I adjust depending on track conditions is the air pressure in the tires and the weight placement. I always keep the hitch at the highest allowable height, and the shortest allowed length.

And to think that all this time I worked on the engine to get more power! Shoulda been workin in the hitch and tires instead. I'll get it right sometime. Mike

i change tire pressure at almost every pull depending on track conditions, and besides that the air pressure changes several pounds when the sun hits it. occasionally i slide my drawbar back, but it's always at its highest place.

I check and often change tire pressure between every hook. Especially if the tractor is sitting in the sun. Drawbar height usually gets adjusted between all hooks because the changing of tire pressure and moving weights will change the height slightly. This may all be overkill, but that is the engineer in me taking over. I only change the hitch length if it looks like a good opportunity to experiment and not give up a chance at a win.

Have you ever watched Nascar, they change tire pressure in small increments to get the best traction on the track. I used to race a sports car solo and one or two pounds made a big difference in grip, so it would be logical raising or lowering the tire pressure on a puller would be one of those things the winners do and everyone else doesn't. It all comes from experience and reading the track. And if the tire pressure goes up too high from one run, you have to adjust down for the next run, etc.
Get a good gauge and large air tank/air compressor.
