Case VAC or Farmall Super C

Which would be better. If both are legal with my club which would some of you prefer. VAC case with G201 combine motor or Farmall Super C with C153 combine motor.

Travis, In most pulls that follow the NATPA rules the 201 VAC is not recognized as a legal combo. It is not a bolt in. I have done it and it is a lot of work. I have been told that the combine engine conversion into a Farmasll is not a direct bolt in either. I had a conversation with a well known MM puller and he allowed as to the fact that there are only two brands of tractors, JD and Farmall, According to him all the rules seem to favor those two and he refered to all the others as "off brands".Our area has not adopted the national rules and so I have no direct knowledge of the rules or of the supposed favoritism. I did read that some parts are not legal for MM to use but others are allowed different heads, blocks than OEM. mEl

Yeah it might be hard to find somewhere to pull a VAC with the 201, but it would be pretty neat to have one with that much power.

My neighbor put a combine engine in a 300 Case (the model with the round front) It was a bolt in except for the governors. About the same as putting a combine engine in a WD AC. He never pulled it but it would really pull a 6 ft bushhog. Plus I think it had a triple range plus 4 = 12 gears.

A 201 is pretty salty! I have one in a 500b and I pull a M&W 10 wheel high capacity rake in 4 direct all the time. I almost never have to shift out of 4 high range on the road with the rake. One in a VAC would be something to have. My son has a vac we put a 148 in with a 500b cam it is pretty tough in pulls. The cam made a real difference with a Lp head. We have 15.5X38s on it now we have clutch trouble going to have to work on that.

mEL,
The Farmall C with an C-153 Combine engine will Bolt in other than the polit bearing and minor water hook ups! The C-153 out of a tractor (444) With the Same Block will bolt in because the machineing of a Polit bearing spot in the end of the Crank!

I Dont See all the Hipe on the C-153 Because you only gain 20 Cid over a Super C O/S Kit with a Small Limited Bore and 35 to maby 40 Hp Stock!
A Stock Block will Accept more Bore!!

And the VAC With a G 201 is 48 Cid larger than a Farmall With a C-153 and is 15 to 25HP More Stock!!

I Guess it All Comes Down to Putting a Large Engine in a Small Tractor so they can Compete with the Rules Some talor for them self Like Letting a Oliver 77, 88, Etc,light weight down to the Farmall C and Case VAC Classes instead of Keeping up In there OWN Classes that they may Knot Be Competitive in!!!

They Should Just Let the Little Tractors Have There Fun in there own Classes without Spending a Fortune!

The Big tractors Should Stay in there Own Classes and Build there Tractor To Compete Instead of Light Weighting and Pulling ALL DAY!!

It's a fine point then, the mods necessary to install the 153 in a C are not visible when done and installed I guess where the vac-201 definately has a mismatched bell housing/ engine joint. They are both combine engines though, the Case engine just happens to be a lot bigger cubes. mEl

Travis wheres the big 900 your building? I shure would like to see if my 900 would keep up with it. later joe

It is in dads shop slowly be finished. This years harvest didn't let us work on it at all for several months. The new motor is in. Most of the accessories are mounted, just have to finish it up. Hopefully we will have it out this spring or summer. I'm sure your 900 will do just fine.
