JD 70 rockers on a G

I've heard alot JD pullers using 70 rockers on a G. What is the point of that? Is the ratio different? Thanks in advance.

I don't think the ratio is any dif but they are steel opposed to the G's cast iron so they weld better. You cut .125-250 out of the pushrod side weld,to get a higher lift

You can also the entire pedistals, rockers, and valve cover. The trick is to get the oil into the valve cover if you use the 70 valve cover. If you use the G valve cover it oils from the top of the valve cover, and drips on the rockers.. The 70 has the oil feed line from the oil pump.
The 70 valve cover isn't a perfect fit, you may have to do a little filling in the top middle of the 70 cover is.. (there's a dip in the middle.) Just a little JB weld on the head will work, or you can add a little metal to the valve cover. The last thing is the blow by tube on the 70 cover.. It really needs to be moved or removed. I pluged my case vent on the crankcase, and just use this one.. (just like a 70) The problem is that it will be right below the exhast manifold. (I didn't change mine, its just in a bad location. )
Ok so maybe its a lot of work, but I wanted to get rid of the external oil, and just to be different.. (also lost a lb or two..)

Sorry for hijacking the post but are the late styled A cast also? Was thinking about cutting them and welding for more ratio/lift. Thanks.

The late A's should be steel..
Some one might have to help me without looking.. but didn't they change when the valve cover changed to stamped steel???

the ones in my 51 a were cast till i put murphys in it you can weld them with a mig i done this on my dc case with cast rockers to do a jd right you have to make new pedestals also reallt better off paying the $300 for murphys and have them guarenteed he says if you ever break on of his let him know hell make you happy

I just welded unstyled A rockers. With Arc, They were not cast. Ive welded them on an A with newer heisler head a 650 cubes with #2 powerblock. They were not cast..
