Ok. I'm sold on LP Gas now, but I'd still like a little more power out of my old 400. It's a stock 251 with A8500 heads. Is there a bigger sleeve/piston combo, say 4 1/8 for 267 or 4 1/4 for 284 that will just drop into the block without doing some boring on the block? If I have to bore it, I'm just going to go with the 4 5/8 sleeve and piston for a 336, but I'd like just a little more bang for a whole lot less bucks. Any hints on working the heads over: bigger valves/smaller stems, etc?
 
Those 251 sleves are pretty thick. You can bore them out to 4.25 then get yourself a set of pistons out of a JD 3020 or 4020 gas and they will fit right in. If there is a JD dealer or shop in your area they might get you a set that they are going to throw away.

lamont i am not a case guy but if i were going to do head work i would take my head as is to a flow bench and have it tested at the different bore sizes you have mention . I think you will find youre biggest cfm potential with the largest bore. yes smaller stems take up less area in the runner also.
 
I have a 401 Case 251 ci that I have been thinking of beefing up a little. I saw this post and became interested in the repy.
Is the wrist pin size the same and the distance from wrist pin to the piston top the same?
