Is it possible to run 2nd gear with 60hp, uncut 15.5 38 Firestones on a 15" with a semi hard track at 5500lb? Tire Pressure is right at 9lb and 2 95lb weights on the back and one on the front.
 
You're right there where it will all depend on the track and the sled. I run the same tractor. On a loose track I will spin out in 2nd. I don't try it on a hard track. If you try it you better have some RPMs
 
Seems like you're "right on the line" with 60 horses...either first or second gear depending on the condition of the track. I have a John Deere G with approx. 60 horse and at 6500 lbs. with 14.9-38 full tread newer Titans I spin out pretty easily in low but often power out in 2nd if the track is clay and hooks pretty good. Now with our Minnie UTU with 15.5 ideal, half tread, hard old road sharp Co-op's and about 45 horse, low is the only gear but it pulls very well at 6500 lbs., often beating the G and others while winning the class. On some tracks though the G will stolmp it good...and everything else in Div. I type tractors. Balance seems real good on both tractors at 6500 lbs.,...front end up about 8 inches usually.
 
yep i've run 3rd with no speed limit on a rock hard track and spun out. have to read the track then pick a gear.
 
[b:991de33ed3]I run 2 super m's, one in the 5000-6000lb and one in the 6000-7000lb.
The one I run in the 5-6k has firestone 14.9 38's on it. I have enough power to run in second gear on most tracks with it. If I run in first gear I usually spin out before i ever power out. If I'm pulling on a track with good traction, I up my air pressure so I get some slippage. The SM I run in the 6-7k, I always run in first gear, more weight better traction. I think on some real super hard tracks I could manage 2nd gear tho.

Around the il area you need about 85HP to run 2nd gear with 20 inich draw bar up to 6000.
