Farmall 400 wants a 301

I can get a Farmall 400 with a seized engine. Ran without oil and locked up.

I have a ih715 gas combine with a good 301 engine.
The combine is rusted out in the bin. I am going to scrap it out. But the engine is good.

My question is will the 301 bolt into the 400 chassis? I have an extra set of frame rails. I understand there will be some other modifications needed. But my main concern is the motor plate and the flywheel/ starter problems I may run into.

Anybody with any info? or experience doing this?

we had one in an M. Need the backing plate and frame rails from a 560, 706, 806, etc., and it will bolt right up at the bell housing. We used the flywheel/clutch/pressure plate from the M, and made a spacer to get the flywheel back where it would be in the M so the starter and clutch work like stock, and redrilled the flywheel to match up with the 6 bolt crank on the 6 cyl engine. If you're going to run RPM's, you probably should have a steel flywheel made.... We tried to keep it as short as possible - took 6" more framerail than the M, and lengthened the hood and steering rod 6" too. a little creativity will get you the throttle linkage. It can be done, but not many places to go with it.
