Case 400 LP

Anyone out there know how light I'll be able to run a 400LP rowcrop with pressed steel wheels, custom made lighweight hubs, 13.6 x 38s, and narrow front? Under 5000? Those of you who know me know I tip the scales at about 300, so factor that in. :)

I once had a 700 down to about 5200, but I was running 18.4 x 38s and some pretty heavy hubs. My 13.6s are 10-ply, so they're pretty heavy, but I don't think they're as heavy as the 18.4 Firestones I was running.

Any ideas on how much I could save by changing out the factory LP tank with a forklift LP tank?

I wouldn't think you'd have too much trouble but I think your gonna be dissappointed in the way it spins out. The cases are nose heavy. I have a 700 with cast 400/700 wheels with 16.9x38 tires that weighs 5100 with nobody on it. The 700 and 400 are identitcal with the exception of the front tub.(don't ask how I know) The 400 sheet metal is lighter than the 700 metal. Get rid of the heavy front tub and gearbox and you will be well under 5000. good luck

Hey lamont, you won't have to take anything off of it just take a photo of it and then it will be light!! Ha!Ha! Later T.G.

Yes, they're almost identical. That's why the comparison of the two. I should have added that my 700 was a gasser rather than LP and was mainly wondering about the weight of that tank.

Is there any way you could send me some pictures of yours and tell me what all you took off of it to get it down to 5100 with the cast wheels?

I'd like to drop that steering sector in the front bolster. It's built like a Sherman Tank and probably weighs around 75 lbs. itself. But if I do that, I'm blank on how to keep a narrow front. I know I could go rack and pinion and still keep it sort of narrow with a custom front, but I want it to look relatively close to stock in appearance. I already have some lightweight spindles, hubs, and front wheels from another tractor that I can adapt to it. Any ideas on a lighter gearbox and narrow front?

I tried attach a few pic's of the 700 I used to have. I sold it to a fellow in Minnesota about 2 years ago. I miss it. 336 cubic inch gas with pretty good power. I pulled as low as 5200 lbs. on up to 7500. It did its best at 6500.

Nice looking 700. I will have to get you some pics of mine. A place to lose a few pounds is to get a set of 30 series twin stick shifters and get rid of the cast range selector in the tranny. That little sucker is heavy. Another place is a manual steering box instead of the power steering.
I have been thinking of fabricating a front tub out of flat steel and still using the same gearbox, I'm sure there is a little weight to be lost there.
I am running regular 6 bolt case hubs on the fron with 16 inch tires but there is more weight to be lost there also.
Btw, I am pretty sure you are the guy that told me how to build a 336. I use to have it in a 400 and went to newer sheet metal.(get to run a few more rpms haha)

That 336 is a sweet little engine ain't it! It's a pretty easy combo too. Don't know WHY Case didn't build a tractor with that setup. Send me some pic's when you get a chance.

My doctor says that weight-loss plan won't work! I told him one time that if his clinic was on the moon, I wouldn't weigh near as much. He said that wouldn't work either.
