Installing a 9 3/8" crank in a 1952 JD A with a 5 3/4" bore. Everything was ground to fit in the crank case but the connecting rods hit the top and bottom of the skirt on the bottom of the cylinder. How much can a person notch out of the skirt to allow the connecting rods to pass through?

Notch out whatever you need to for everything to go round 'n round. You aren't going to hurt anything cutting out a notch in the top/bottom of the bore.

I've got a 9.250" shaft behind a power block, and the sleeves in the power block have notches probably 1.5ish" from the back part of the sleeve, and wide enough to miss the rod plus some clearence. Just make sure when you cut your little notches in the cylinders that you leave a radius in the corners. Sharp corners are where cracks begin.

Drew can I ask exactly what you mean by leave a radius...I am grinding for my crank and have to get into the back of the sleeve quite a bit, everything is ground on the case now just have to notch the sleeves and make sure the cam clears. any advice you can throw at me would be awesome

Maybe a picture will help. Look at the corners of the notches. They are not a square corner, but rather they have a radius in the corner.
