Hey Farmall M Pullers...

Our stock starter is finally giving up on us. We want to purchase a starter that is able to support most anything we decide to do with the motor in the future. I know Lemmons offers a gear reduction for the M and Denny's offers a "high torque starter". Is Denny's gear reduction as well? The tractor is for pulling only and currently we have modest motor work with aims of something more aggressive in the future. We pull mostly locally in Div 2 and maybe higher in the future. What would everyone recommend as a good starter for our needs? Thanks!!

Dont but anything from DENNYS!!!! Lemmons stuff is pretty good some local starter shops might be able to hook you up. But Stay away from DENNYS CARB shop.

Bought mine from Denny's. Been using it three years now. Still works fine for me. Engine is 4 5/8 X 7 1/2 with 275 PSI compression.

Been running Denny's starter on a 436 M for 3 years with good results, price was competitive at that time. Also like his wheely bars & front pedestal - Denny & staff are rude, however.

Paul Marlatt offers a nice gear reduction starter that works great I know of Four M farmalls with some power that use them and havent had any problems.

I doubt that he is over 16/1 ratio, remember lots of things play into cylinder psi, especially cam overlap, a 12.5/1 - 13/1 engine could make close to 300 psi.

Rear end problems- a 500 cube M is starting to be considered normal/not extreme, these days because there are more and more engines around 600 cubes being put together. The rearends will handle alot of power (200+ hp) going down the track

Cranking PSI and mechanical compression ratio ARE NOT RELATED!!!!!! Like superih said, there are many variables that contribute to cranking PSI readings. There is NO POSSIBLE WAY to take a cranking PSI reading and convert that to a mech. compression ratio number.

Got that right, bought some stuff from denny's very rude people and inconsiderate. Dont know anything about there own products and will never do any more business with them
