Need a diet

On a 52 A, I weigh between 5200 and 5300 depending on the scale with my cast rear wheels, I already have pressed steel rear wheels just not put on, will I be down to the 4500 class with the steel wheels? if not what else can I take off to get down there. I want to pull 4500 and 5500, I do need the working pto.
I am just wondering where the most weight would be,
hydralic system?
roll-o-matic front?
cutting axles shorter?

I want to get it down to 4500 but I do want to keep it looking as stock as possible, I dont want it to look obviously stripped down to nothing

My '48 A with pressed steel wheels and all the usual stuff weighs 4550 so I guess if you pull off the Roll-a-matic or the Powr-trol you could get under 4500 okay with the steel wheels. Are you gonna pull in low or 2nd or ? when you get down to 4500? I weight mine to 5500 and pull in low....it's got the fast 2 1/2 mph low....like your 2nd in your '52.

dont know what gear I will pull in, I will have to see what gear has the right power to meet the speed limit and all that. last year I pulled it it low all the time in 5500.

I have a 48' A with cast centers, 13.6x38's, and no rollamatic and it weighs just under 5100lb's. Thats just enough to pull in the 5000lb class at most of the pulls. But I only weigh 175lbs and i cant put too much fuel in it. I also have to remove the weight bars. It has become too much work so i dont do it anymore but it was possible

Had a 52 A that I used to pull and it weighed 5360lbs. w/ cast wheels. I changed to pressed wheels and it weighed 4950lbs. I also had a power block and shaved head, but I still did not have the power to pull in 2nd gear.

The lightest I weighed with the cast is 5225 full of fuel with me on and I am at around 180 and the heaviest was 5375, our scale differs alot, I have had people tell me that the steel wheels will save #300 each, I think that is a high estimate, but if its true I only have a few more pounds to go to get to 45, our pulls allow no grace. Maybe if I went on a liquid diet for the winter?? What about the weld on hubs? the hubs that I bought seem ridiculously heavy.

We have a '47 A with Pressed Steel Wheels, No Roll a Matic, a Factory Rear Cover w/o Hyd., Pto, Aluminum Weight Brackets, Front Middle, & Rear, & Alum. Wheelie Bars. We can put 150-200 lbs on & pull 4500#. This tractor has been NATPA Division II Tech'd.

I have a 49 A, which has the lighter round axle housing and the high/low shifter. with pressed rims 14.9-38's, rollomatic, powertrol and steel weight brackets, I could only get down to about 4700 (with 225# driver) last summer I removed the powertrol and put on a flat back, and made custom seat brackets to keep the battery box seat, I can now get down to about 4450. my pto still works too. still run first gear, but with 14.9's my first gear is 3 mph. with a split pedestal you could use a 420 john deere front and probably loose another 150lbs good luck. let me know if you come up with any good diet plans, I would like some more moveable weight.

Try lightening up the Bull Gears, Diff, & Axles. Small tires & wheels up front. Remove the rear tubes. Remove the JD air intake system. Lots of weight to lose.

well thanks for the posts, definatly hope I can getter down there enough. if i have to put the ol girl on a steady work out plan I will to burn the weight off!

Pick, go after the big easy things first.

Air intake. I got a nice looking Stainless intake from S. Crum out of PA. Much lighter and purrtier than that clunky cast iron oil bath.

Hydraulics
Rolomatic

If you can, radiator - replace with auto style radiator - just make an angle framework to support the hood, grills, exhaust, intake

Rims. Plasma out what isnt' needed. Imagine the rim having 8 sections. Cut out every other one.

Much smaller gains and more work playing with gears, axle shafts.

Pick, I'll get some pictures today or tomorow and post em for you. He did the exhaust as well. Looks and sounds great.
