Ive got a little B. its stroked i think 2.25 and and i think an 1/8in over bore with dished pistons. a hisler head with an 1/8 taken off the front and back of the block for more compression(the rods are a little short). ive only made 45hp on the dyno. its got 41-46 block and head. but a 39-40 main case and 41-46 rear end. i currently run it on e85 and octane booster(it was pinging on the dyno with out octane booster). with this set up should I be making more hp? thanks

pinging kills power , make sure fuel has enough octane for your comp. ratio then play with timing, too lean will also contribute to pinging, 45 is pretty good out of a B, but an AC wd45 has nearly that with no mods. in the same weight class! Mark should have some good ideas.

ive had it on the dyno plenty of times and have messed with the high speed fuel mixture and got it set right. and the timing is set about right. i got 46 out of it with that manifold. im gonna build a few more this winter and see what happens. these manifolds will be alot simpler and the primarys on the exhaust side will be the same length.

Sounds about right -
RPM*cubes/7500 = HP

Not an exact formula, but gets ya in the neighborhood for modified tractors.

That little bore is killing you. Having a big crank is nice, but you need more bore. You're about the same CI as a styled B w/a Powerblock and no stroke.

Running E-85 with octane booster doesn't make any sense either. E-85 has higher antiknock properties than octane booster. Are you so lean that it's pinging lean? Either run E85 straight or mix with pump gas.

what carb are you running?
Have tou tried it on CAM2, VP or other race gas?

We do have a set of 5.5 in pistons. but I dont think the budget i have now will get a block sleeved and rods made. It might be that it was too lean when i had it on they dyno.. im using a 71.
I used to run CAM2 but it being so expensive and me not having alot of money i tryed resorting to other fuels.

How do you know you had mixture right?

I guess I dont know but thats where it made the most power with the timing adjustments on the dyno. how would you really check it? i guess you could get one of those air/fuel mixture gauges?

I don't really have it figured out either. No smoke. Pyro in exhaust would be helpful.

I may be done for the year anyways. Orthoscopic Surgery didn't go so well yesterday. Quite a bit more damage than he thought. Won't be able to use left hand for 3 months.

Yeah thats same method I use. no smoke. But e85 dont smoke like gasoline does. Im sorry to hear that didnt go good for you. rig up a right handed throttle!
