any one ever tryed making putting the cam shaft over head? how would you run a timing chain up? also has anyone ever gotten a steel fly wheel made?
 
Take and eliminate the camshaft all together, then put electronic selonoids to open/close the valves in the valve cover. Would cost alot of money and would be a very good set up providing the electric doesn't go out! Just an idea!

Im not trying to build anything im just thinking of ideas to try to make more power out of a JD is all.
 
Or you could just install a flux capacitor! Then you could take your OHC John Deere back to 1855 so maybe it would be competitive!
 
The short answer is, yes, I believe a SOHC can be done on a Deere. I am not going to go into details on the board on how I have thought of engineering it.

I believe the benefits would be that it would eliminate pushrod flex and camshaft flex on a stroke clearenced cam. I know it only runs 1000 rpm with almost no spring pressure, but a 2ft long pushrod cant stay perfectly straight.

A severly stroke clearenced cam will flex just setting the valves, so at running speed, with the oil pump loading it; I dont really want to think about how much the cam is moving.

I have not prusued the project farther because the best reason I came up with for doing it was so that I could say that I built one....and that really inst that good a reason.

Yeah Doc Brown, thats what i could do! and I could also bring a life time supply of fuel thats a good enough grade so the motor dont ping either! Ill get right on making a flux capacitor!!
