I am thinking about purchasing a Case 1370 puller with a 3LM turbo and a SJD quick delivery A pump . Can anyone give me some pros and cons of this tractor? I have heard they are limited in the amount of horsepower you can get before the flywheel flys apart.

i pulled a case for a number of years in a hot farm class.i used a staab steel flywheel and 2 disc clutch on mine.most people like the case because of the 504 ci/in,but the heads are junk in my opinion.anyone that runs a case will tell you that the heads just cant flow enough air.to be honest a red or green one equiped with the same cc pump and same charger, and similar engine work will out hp a case everytime, its just a fact.if youre stuck on a case use a 970 chassis,a 504 out of a 2670 or one without the pencil injectors, use a intercooler manifold with no guts in it,around 450-500cc and a "good"3-lm will run 7th gear in 9500-10,000 lbs class, take out youre low range gears and put a set from a 1175 in,it will give you a half gear split(not quite half but pretty close),the 1175 gears need to be high range gears ,you will have 2-sets of high range gears, aslo rod schottel from savanah,mo is getting good power in the sf class with case heads,i belive they are brazing the ports completely closed and putting their own design in.also look up karl kahn from wi. him and tim jones probably have the most competitive case diesel out there now(a pro stock),but they are a long way from were case started.i plan on building a tr for my son and it wont be another case sad to say,im pretty sure it will be red or a oliver with a cummins in it.

also most of the cranks are not counter balanced.i found 1 that was in a 1090 tractor though.there is a lot of constuction engine parts that are switchable from dozers and wheel loaders.i dont mean to sound negative, but thats just how it is.the 8 speed is a great transmission to use as a base to build from.the rear end is mostly trouble free up to 1000hp give or take a few.try to get ahold of henry smith from mi.his case runs very good to in sf.a 970 with 20.8 rubber and a homemade widefront should very easily get into a 8000 lb class with full tinwork on.case also made a cast iron front nose peice on most tr.a few tr had a fiberglass nose price that is real light and you would want to use.if i think of anything else ill post on youre thread.

Respectufully have to disagree with you in that all 1370 had counterbalanced cranks. Also they had balanced conecting rods . What 70 series did not have pencil injectors?

2670 didnt have pencil injectors.i meant to get a 90 series or newer heads with big injectors if starting from parts.youre right about the cranks being balanced, just the non balanced are so much more popular.
