JD 2 cyl. BILLET CRANKSHAFTS

You're going to tear thru $5-6K to do a billet 2 cylinder crank. As long as you dont try something stupid, a billet shaft should last a very long time.

But even a welded crank can last a good while(altough not forever); the problem is a vast majority of the people out there think they need every last CI they can get. If they would back up the stroke just a little, they can make almost as much power and yet the engine LIVE a lot longer.

Probably about right for a B, an A or a G would be closer to $7-9k. At least when I looked at it last year, heck, price of steel could have gone up 50% since then. :( That 4340 is expensive stuff. I think it was around $4.50/# when I looked into it last year, and you turn most of it into chips worth $0.010 per pound.

4140 would be less expensive, and a lot better than the 10xx stuff the original cranks were made from, but if you're spending that much money, get the best stuff.

I agree. If pullers spent 1/4 the time on money working on the cylinder heads and manifolds. As they do on cubic inches. They would make almost as much HP.
Those engines are breathing through hot, long and small dia ports designed for low rpm torque while buring kerosene.

I really dont know where to point you to get one made. The long stroke on a JD narrows the choices of shops that are capable.

I thought Murphy's was doing them, maybe not.

Try the link below. Haven't made any yet, not the kind of item you have laying on a shelf, but has the capability.
