i want to put our stock john deere b in a local pull. cast rear wheels farly fresh overhaul (rings valves ground) 6 speed trany just wanted some pointers on what gear i should run or any thing i should do to get it to pull desent>
 
it is a transfer sled. if i ad weight to get it to weight where should it be put front or back. the tractor has 11.2-38 rear tires with basicaly 100% tread
 
Not a simple answer...

With your drawbar in stock location, you won't get much downforce. Flip the drawbar over, that'll give you a couple inches of height. The higher you get it, the more downforce (and lighter the front end will be).

Depends on the track and sled chain length and height. I've pulled 3500# with 250 on the rear in 5th gear - differnt track, I'd only be in 4th with all the weight on the nose. Just watch what the others are doing. Get as light as you can for the first class and use the 2nd class to adjust weight as needed.

Remember the first rule. Go out and have fun and be safe. OOOPS that was 2 rules.
 
You want to add as much of your weight to the rear as you can - how far the front end comes up is going to be your limiting factor as to how much weight you add front or rear and also your hitch height. Don't forget to air down the tires - I usually run about 10psi depending how much weight I hang.
