There seems to be more than one Persian orange color. Does anyone have the correct ppg or dupont color number for a 1948 vintage Allis Chalmers?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Jason,

I am unable to read the numbers for the sample on the left. I would expect the MTK and the DCC to be quite close to each other (and they are) because they share the same 60080 formula number. Is the left one the DuPont YS074 (in Centari)? Thanks for doing the different sample sprayouts. It is the best way to compare shades of colors - right next to each other.

sorry but no that's not the Centari. It's Napa's 99L-50843 in Acrylic Enamel. I took my PPG 60080 and compared it to Napa's fleet paint chips to get that one. I would try a chip a little more to the yellow side of things next time. I was trying to come up with a good match in a non iso formulation.

The PPG 60080 crosses to Martin Senour (NAPA) 10091 in accordance with the MS on-line cross reference. I have no idea how close it is. You can also look up Allis Chalmers in the fleet section at the same site and get several formula numbers for AC persian orange. Again I have no idea which is which or if any is close to that early shade. There were too many possibilities for me to try test sprayouts. Interestingly, using the MS listing for Allis Chalmers, the 10091 does not show up at all, although a 10090 does. I gave up on MS when I was looking because of conflicting info and MS color chips for the several numbers they listed all looked similar - all were too red.

Unless you are searching outside the PPG brand or for a higher quality than OMNI, OMNI MAE 60080 is an excellent match to the MTK 60080. It is, after all, the same color number. It is an acrylic enamel that can be used as a non-iso paint. I think you are going to have some difficulty if you are looking for a high-end non-iso mix in any brand. PPG's Delstar (DAR) 60080 is a great AE, if you can find it in your area. It would be a prime consideration as it can be mixed non-iso. At least it used to years ago. I also thought that the Centari YS074 looked pretty close from one of your test sprayouts. That's a nice AE that is still mixable as a non-iso paint. Many would call me nuts to refer to Centari and Delstar as high-end since that would be considered an oxymoron nowadays. However, they are both excellent AEs IMO with the price to prove it. Anything of higher quality or performance is going to get you into the urethane area with isocyanates in just about everything. Unfortunately for me, Delstar is no longer marketed in my area. Centari may not be far behind. Neither can compete with the urethanes in performance or with the "economy" line AEs in cost.

I tried the Napa 99l- 10091, like you say it's supposed to be a direct cross for ppg 60080. If you take a look lower in this thread you'll see it. It looks close to the Nason version of 60080. Neither are very close to 60080. I myself plan to use 60080 in the concept line. I was trying to find a good number for the general public who don't want to buy a SCBA and where I'm at napa alot I grabbed some to try. So when the 10091 didn;t pan out I brought my spray out of the 60080 down and tried matching it to the spray chips. I feel 50843 is very close, but someone else may want to refine the search for a match. so all in all I'm passing the torch off to someone else to refine the search for Persian Orange. I'm ending with PPG's 60080 Urethan, Duponts centari YS074 AE as matches with MS (napa) 99L-50843 being very close.

Earlier I went out and bought a bunch of Persian orange paint. Basicly PPG 60080 is the best match. Here is some that don't work.

Hi Russ,

There were two different persian oranges used by AC. The early version is a pumpkin shade of orange that was used to about 1959 or 1960. The later version has more red in it and was used afterwards. Here's a visual comparison of the two in PPG, as compared to an original belly mower belt guard for my '42B. The 60080 is the early one and the 60396 is the later one:
