Hardener Isocyanates?

Do acrylic enamel hardeners contain Isocyanates?

I don't have a supplied air respirator so I've always just kept away from catalysts because of the Iso risk.
I've painted tractors and implements only for field work, not show quality, so generally just use dealer acrylic enamels. Next project is a combine (outer panels) to tidy it up.

I noticed on a Krylon acrylic enamel catalyst can it doesn't mention Isocyanates.
Are these hardeners safe to spray without supplied air?

Thanks,

They used to make cartridges that rated for that.

It has been a few years since I bought any of them.

At that I sprayed outside to be safer about it.

To be safe I would tell you that ALL hardeners contain isocyanates. You should check the chemical specification of the product you're using for that information.

Isocyanates are hardeners for polyurethanes and are used to make polyisocyanurate.

Acrylics, epoxys, etc. have different chemistrys.

Any paint with a hardener is unhealthy to work with however there are different levels of dangers. If you are not using acrylic enamel as a career you could use it with a conventional chemical respirator. Even the isocyannate hardener made for oil based enamels is mild enough to use with a conventional respirator. The isocyannate hardener used un urethane paints is the one you need an air supplied respirator for even just using a gallon of paint.

Showcrop, yes, I did check the SDS's. PPG and Valspar hardeners both listed Iso's and supplied air respirators. The Krylon
'catalyst acrylic' hardener SDS states it's an Isocyanate-free formula. I know Krylon is a pretty cheap paint so I'm assuming
they are using 'catalyst' pretty loosely. Ultimately I think I might look for a supplied air respirator.
