Hi guys,
painting my '51 8n with rust-oleum red and wanted to know if I can add hardener/catalyst to help it dry?

I think you should refer to the paint manufacturer's instructions/recommendations for the specific Rust-Oleum product you're using. Doing the wrong thing and adding the wrong stuff could
ruin your job. Read the product label and follow it to a T.

I was doing a quick refresh of a Ford a few weeks back. I had used automotive paint on other projects, but this was kind of a quickie so I used Majic red and hardener. It was a mistake. There is a big difference between real paint and cheap stuff. Instead of gloss it is a "satin" finish. It is well known that bright colors will dull with exposure to the sun. I repainted my tedder in two stages. Automotive in the first part, and finished up with implement paint on the rest. After three years the two parts are like night and day. I hope you don't have much time and effort in your prep job.

Yes they make a hardener available at tractor supply you can add to any oil based paint. It will help it dry plus make it more glossy. The problem is the color red is the most prone to
fade. Unless you keep the tractor inside when you are not using it you can expect the tractor to turn pink. With the color red you would be better off using an automotive paint. If you
use acrylic enamel it will work much like the enamel and not be forbidding in price. Of course better paint cost more but what would it be worth for the paint not to fade for a very long
time. All you would have to do is make a sample with some rattle can paint and the paint jobber can computer color match it like they do house paint.
