Maximum shine

What is the secret to get maximum shine when painting my Massey Ferguson mower deck and Massey garden wagon? They are just for show.1970s models.I had them sand blasted to this point.
Thank you.

How much work are you willing to do. A basecoat clearcoat paint would give the most shine. It would be like painting a car where there is a lot of between the coats sanding and finish sand it with 2000 grit paper and buff it.

If there were pits rusted into the deck and you don't want them to be there you could apply a few coats of primer surfacer in those areas.

I have primed my 8 horse MF deck and MF garden wagon with clean metal primer by Rust
Oleum after sand blasting it and it don't look too bad.Now what Massey red paint do I use
and procedures to get best coverage and shine?

If you wish to check what you have done put a coat of a different color primer over the other and sand most of it off. If there is any defects it will show up in the primer.

I don't think I have enough confidence to clear coat.If I had a step by step I might try it on the deck first.

If you are using a paint sprayer, spraying a clear wouldn't be any harder than spraying any other paint. The basecoat would go on dead flat almost looking like colored primer and then the clear would go over it.

I would use MBC base coat made by PPG. If you have a sample of the color the paint jobber can computer match it like the paint stores do with house paint. Then use a urethane clear coat. The base coat may not be compatible with the rustoleum primer. You might sand it and put a coat of automotive primer over the top. I use Advantage 325 primer sealer.

Just keep in mind that if you are used to spraying rustoleum the base coat will seem like spraying nothing. It's real thin. Then the urethane clear will be a little thinner too.
