Wonder if I can clear coat my car?

Have a 2002 Pontiac Sunfire. The old clear coat is coming off.
Know it won't be pretty, but want to preserve where the clear coat is gone. Of course it all depends on how much more rain we get. It is either raining or excessive wind when its not raining. DOUG

It wouldn't do you any good to put a clear coating over failing clear coat. The only remedy is to take it down to bare metal and start over.

Blast off the loose stuff at the car wash and wipe the old paint
down and rattle can it clear. My Chevy pu held for three years
before the clear started coming off again.

504, will try that.
Stephen Newell said to take it down to bare metal first. Car is not worth that much with over 1/4 million miles on it.
Like your idea of using rattle can paint instead of mixing paint. DOUG

You wouldn't necessarily have to take the entire car down to bare metal. What I meant is the rusty area which is the complaint, take that down to bare metal.

If you have the time, simply waxing the vehicle twice or more a year can do a lot to preserve the finish.

My wife's 97 Silverado w-123k miles is like new in and out with exception of
peeling clear coat. Unless old age is playing tricks on me,I recall being
stripper that would remove topcoat leaving primer unharmed. There were
several formulas specific to certain paints. In view of GM's clearcoat being
so freaking sorry,I'm hoping to find something that will remove that which
hasn't peeled without harming base coat.
