Anyone painted with 2 part epoxy

Had a problem in the upstairs bath room. It's a very small room but we ended up removing everything but the tub. Prior to the problem, everything was yellow and not from age! It was meant to be yellow. Anyway, I bought a 2 part Rustoleum kit from ACE hardware. I found a demonstration film on You Tube which made it look easy. I have sanded it, buffed it all out, scrubbed it with bleach, re-cleaned with Soft Scrub and wiped down with paint thinner followed by sanding with 400 grit and finished (finally) with 600 grit Then scrubbed out and wiped dry. Now the painting... The drain needs to be covered and the excess continually. How much can collect on it before a problem develops? How long does it take to 'set'? The directions say to go 2 coats about 2 hours apart. Any tips or experience tips would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Generally you only have about a 50-50 chance of having a good outcome from recoating a tub. Anyway the drain I would recommend unscrewing it and removing it to paint the tub. Any little spot leaves the paint open to failure and having the paint terminate at the drain leaves a spot for the paint to peal. It will hold up better if the paint goes down the drain hole as far as possible. If you plan to keep the house for a long time I would recommend replacing the tub. The only time I recoat a tub for a customer is when they are trying to fix up a house to sell.

I stopped at a friends new house. He proudly showed me the cast iron clawfoot tub in "his" bathroom. It had come out of his grandparents place just before it was demolished. He had rescued it and had it freshly enameled. It looked like new.
