Straightening bent metal

The grill portion of the hood on a 2015 Jeep Cherokee has been pulled out about 12 inches from where it should be. Hoods have an inner structure that is tougher to bend than the outer skin. Would I be crazy to cut the inner structure with a cut off wheel and then bend the hood back down and then welded the inner structure back together? I want to do the best I can, but I don't want to spend the money on a new hood. Dad's 94 and my brother is trying to get Dad license revoked.

the inner reinforcement is a hsla steel ( high strength low alloy). if you attempt it you will need to mig weld it back together. use er70s wire and 75/25 argon co2. i would be leary if the latch support area would be strong enough to keep the hood down. another option is a new aftermarket hood. here is one for about 280 dollars

Mom decided after she could not find her driveway after dark it was time to stop driving. She wanted to keep the car with plates and insurance so someone could take her to town with her car. After none of us would drive her car but take ours she decided to cancel the insurance. Mom is 92,make suggestions and don't make demands(if you can)it is hard to depend on anybody else for transportation. (Will still pride no matter how old we are.)

I think rock auto was $621 for a hood. I hadn't checked to many other places yet. The hood isn't real bad, if I can get the front to lay back down.

2014 fits what you are describing better than 2015. 2015 looks to have a dividing line above the grill. 2014 does not from the photos I see.

Well, one thing about it, if your plan don't work, you only ruined a hood that was already messed up.
Maybe sitting at an extremely buisy body shop for 4 months waiting to get fixed, might be a good thing.
Grandma was way up in her 80's when she quit driving. Came up to an intersection on country road where she was to turn left. Hit the accelerator instead of the brakes. Came around the corner, and then fish tailed. Car eventually 180'd and ended up along a fence, and then stuck in the mud being off the gravel roadway. Wasn't hurt and minor damage to side of car. One vehicle accident. Had to get some people at a near by farm house, and my dad involved to get her car out and back home.
She didn't want to, and didn't
like it much, but the embarrassment of it all persuaded her to hang it up.
About 10 years later, dad had to hang it up too. Lost to much eye sight, and couldn't pass eye exam to renew license. It was harder on him to no longer drive, being at a much younger age than grandma when it occurred (early 70's).
