Well I goofed up.

I painted an Allis tractor with enamel paint and using hardener and I didn't have enough light to see my work. Now in some areas I have thin paint and other areas I have runs. All these pieces were removed from the tractor.

I want to correct this. It's a grandson tractor project.

If I sand down the runs to level it out. Would the next step be to lighting scuff up all the painted surface and repaint the whole piece? I'm not sure what the best procedure would be. I sure could use some advice here.

Regards
Dave

Be sure to let it dry good before you fix it. A run often stays gummy in the middle for quite a while and won't sand. You might take a glass scraper and shave some of it off before sanding. A glass scraper is a single edge razor blade on a handle.

More than likely you can't paint just the spot especially if you spray it. The entire part would need to be painted. Sometimes it takes a couple coats to make a spot go away.

wet sand the run down with 400 grit wet dry sand paper. use warm water with car wash soap ( it doesnt leave a film). i use a 3m wet or dry rubber squeegee as a sanding block. when you get it smooth, go over the panel with a red scotchbrite pad either wet or dry, then dry it off, hit it with wax and grease remover, tack rag it and then shoot it. wear nitrile disposable gloves when using the wax and grease remover and the tack rags, you dont want to get oils from your hands on the prepped surface. here is a link to the squeegee

I do not mean to be critical, But what I would like to share, shoot light coats ,and let it tack up. Do not rush getting it on all at once. MUST HAVE good lighting! Do not spray your parts in an ark pattern. Shoot straight across. Start spraying before you shoot across the part. CM These lessons in painting are learned by MAking mistakes and learning from them. Stay with it! .CM
