Is it necessary to wear my forced air respirator when mixing the hardner into the enamel outside in the fresh air. Also, can you apply hardened enamel outside with a brush without using a forced air respirator Thank you for any help you can give me.
Best Wishes.

What kind of hardener? If you are talking about the hardener like tractor supply sells for enamel then yes you can mix it without a respirator of any kind. Brushing it I would recommend wearing a cartridge type respirator just because you would have so much of it offgassing. You can even spray it without the air supplied. The kind of hardener that is for automotive urethane paint is what you need the air supplied respirator for. You could mix it but you would need the air supplied respirator for anything you did with it. Now this is something for the DIY, not someone for the occupational over exposure of doing it for a living. The person using the automotive hardener for a living would also need to wear gloves and a suit to keep it off their skin. Spraying a couple gallons every few years you are not going to absorb enough through your skin to hurt you.
