2N tractor color

So Ive used a wire bush to confirm this and Ive gone around the tractor with shock and confusion. The serial number on the engine appears to start with 9N293 and the casting of the frame behind the seat on the right side is 2N.below the stamp date (3-7-47). The color of most of the tractor except for the hood color and lights (those are white) is blue. The front tires are white and the rear ones are blue. I believe the color is empire blue. Basically, going to bare metal reveals blue and white.

So, the question is, what do I have because Im not familiar with this color scheme and I would like to repaint with original colors. Lets summarize here. Blue is the main color over metal, then in places gray but mostly black and red. The instrument panel is faded yellow.

Ive included a photo of the blue.

Thanks,

Stuart

Blue is not an original color. blue was not used till the early 60s. Yours is an old repaint.Probably from the early 60s in order to have a more 'modern' paint job. That trick was also done to other makes of tractors as well. Farmall H/M tractors were often repainted with a white stripe on the hood to match up to the newer x50/x60 series tractors.JD,Case and other mkes were often repainted in a similar way. I have a '44 JD 'A' with a yellow stripe on the hood, like a JD 620.Early N tractors were painted a dark shade of gray, later ones had red bellys and grey hoods and fenders. I dont know exactly when the change occured.

You can look at the radious rods on the steering support to help determinn if 9/2N. However, you could also have a mongrel/frankentractor. Many parts from 9/2/8N were interchangeable. Common practice. After almost 80 years anything is possible.I have two 'frankentractors'. One,a MD rear end/transmision,400 from the clutch houseing forward. The other is the afore mentioned JD A. It has an 'old style' wide front from a Farmall M.Love the frankentractors, they are fun,and often quite interesting.

Your situation is not at all unusual. It comes up here probably 4-5 times a year. Dark Gray.
