Just try a small piece as it might make spider webs on the original paint. I was going to do that on a w9 and painted the battery box cover and it went all spider webs. The two paints did not like each other

I agree with rustweb however the spider web pattern may take a month or more to appear. It would be best to determine what kind of paint the original paint is. If the paint is a lacquer a urethane clear doesn't do very well. it would be better to put a lacquer clear over lacquer. The best way to tell is to remove a bolt somewhere and soak it in lacquer thinner and see if the paint liquefies. If it's an enamel it will wrinkle up the paint like you put paint stripper on it.

You see cars all over with the clear coat pealing off. It's risky at best to clear coat paint. The tractor would have to be really clean and every square inch of it would have to be scuff sanded for the clear to get a mechanical bond.

There is a JD dealer in the area that sprays clear coat all over used tractors except for the glass. It probably increases the sale price a few thousand. It looks pretty good for 2-3 years but after 4-5 you can see that it looks a lot worse than if they had left it the way it was.
