phosphating before painting on old tractor parts

When working on our equipment, often I will wire bush parts that are rusted and then paint them. Was wondering if there is an easy way that these parts could be treated with a phosphate coating before painting ?
Specifically would it be feasible to brush or spray the surface with a phosphating solution then wash it before rinsing, drying and then painting ?
What chemicals and materials are used ?

Phosphoric acid based rust converters turn rust into iron phosphate. I use Rust Mort by SEM, and the process is not difficult. There are plenty of conspiracy theories about it can't possibly take paint but I follow the instructions and it works for me.

Dupont sells a product called "Metal Prep" which is exactly for that purpose. You should follow
up with an epoxy primer. Thena primer surfacer. This is of course if you only want a perfect show
paint job.
