Paint type for the outside of Ford NAA gas Tank

Am redoing our Ford NAA. While the tractor is a part, plan to clean the rust etc off the gas tank and then put a coat or two of paint on it before reassembling. The tank appears to be made from a coated steel product. Suspect it might be made from tern coated steel.
What type of paint should be used to paint it ?
Many thanks for any help you can give me.

This is what I used on mine. PPG 8568 Silver Gray some call it Argent Silver, used it on the rear rims and also used it on the gas tank. Meant to be similar to aluminum

You would have better luck using a urethane. It would be resistant to the gasoline they make today. A lot of paints will wrinkle up like you put paint stripper on it from gasoline spills.

Farmerhr, the tank was originally aluminized. The same coating as on mufflers. I agree that the "argent" which is what truck bumpers used to be painted before they went to chroming them all, would look good. If you want it to keep looking good for more than 2-3 years though you need to kill the rust with one of the phosphoric acid rust converters, and then prime it.

Thank you for all your excellent suggestions.
The tank is under the hood on a NAA, I am just trying to keep it from rusting more. With the hood in place, it is very hard to see. Just whant to make it look in good shape.
I appreciate all your help.

I think it’s the same way my Fordson model F is . Got this silver looking cralkling appearance on the bottom of the tank. I thought they were in a hurry to get it out of Dearborn and didn’t paiint it. , almost though it was a galvanizing.
I was just sanding mine down yesterday to prime it with rusty primer.

Dennis, if you don't want to have rust bubbles in three years like I did on a project 15 years ago you should kill the rust before painting.
