Spraying Rustoleum Hammered paint

My stock trailer is ugly, got a bunch of surface rust on the outside

I've used Rustoleum Hammered metal paint from spray cans before, I like the way it hides imperfections. But I done a little Google searching, guys say it can be hard to spray the quarts through a gun and
have it look decent.

All I've got for equipment is a cheap Harbor Freight purple spray gun, or a 40 year old Craftsman gun. Don't want to use a hardener. Just figure on wire brushing the rust, maybe hit it with phosphoric acid,
and spraying.

Just about anything I do will make it look better. Any suggestions for spraying this stuff are appreciated

Thanks

I sprayed some 2K urethane metallic silver through my cheap HF HVLP gun and it came out great. I was worried about the metallic showing patterns but even on the vertical it looked good.

The only problem with spraying a hammered paint is getting too much on at once. If you can control the sprayer where you don't flood the surface you shouldn't have any problem with the gun. I would rather use a gun than a rattle can any day.

Put a few small but clean nuts or ball bearings in the cup so you can shake it and agitate the metallic particles occasionally to keep your color even.

6 inch paint roller and an old brush for the places you cant reach with the roller.
