First timer painting an Oliver 66

I am working on an Oliver 66 that is going to be used as my hay tedder tractor. Since I have it stripped down, I thought that I would try to give it a practice paint job, I have painted a JD lawn tractor and it came out OK, so I would like to try a full size one now.
I am going to give this a real restoration someday, but for now I just want to get some inexpensive paint that I can find On-Line. When I searched, Wal-Mart came up first with a brand "Tallmans AG Specialty", it had the Green, Red, and Yellow for Oliver, but at $35.00 a gallon seemed kind of cheap and I wonder how good it would be. I have heard a lot of bad about the "Majic" brand sold at Tractor Supply, so I will stay away from that.
I think my Father would use a brand "Van Sickle" if he was painting a tractor that he could not get paint from the JD, Ford, or IH dealer and that seemed to hold up good.
I was wondering what results some of you out there have had with these paints. I would also like to use all of the products like primer, paint, thinner, and hardener from the same manufacture so that I won't have any problems like my Father did when he mixed an off-brand hardener with IH Red and it turned Purple.
Thanks for any help on this, Eric Perry.

My only experience with Van Sickle paint is their IH blue. I have used it extensively on IH implements that have blue in their paint scheme. All of mine is painted with a brush and it takes a long time for coat #1 to dry before you can apply coat #2. I would not be afraid to use it.

You might want to go ahead and use an automotive paint for the wheels. The color red is very prone to fade and a cheaper line of paint will do just that for you.

I've never used the brands of paint you are looking at. For cheap paint I've had good luck with Rustoleum Tractor and Implement paint. I painted a Kubota tractor about 10 years ago with it and it's holding up very well.

The cheap paint won't stick well without a good primer. It will fade, but it will still be hard to get off once you get to where you want to do the resto.
